Guy Fawkes Day was a big event when I was a child a long time ago, growing up in Ahaura. As a young teacher I once met a woman who travelled all round NZ and petitioned parliament for a law change to prevent children buying fireworks. The law was introduced and I think it was a good thing because it was dangerous the way we used to play with fireworks!
